Sonoma Wildfire Cottages

The goal of the Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County's Wildfire Cottage initiative is to showcase new building technologies and design solutions while providing shelter for families impacted by the 2017 wildfires in Sonoma County. This vision is to inspire new models of development which balance the need to quickly build safe and resilient structures, that are affordable to construct and maintain over time, efficient to operate, and are designed to live large.

Inspired in part by the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Shacks, Habitat’s first Sonoma Wildfire Cottages will temporarily be located in Santa Rosa, CA. The ten homes will showcase three different building technologies including steel frame modular, SIPs panels, and a steel frame and EPS component systems.

The one and two-bedroom homes are all under 750 square feet. In two to five years, the homes will be moved to permanent locations and sold to Habitat for Humanity qualified families. Once these eight homes are built, one or more of these building technologies will be used to scale the program to meet the need for temporary housing in Sonoma County.
